Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)

Your deposits with Northern Rock are protected in cooperation between the UK Financial Services Compensation Scheme and the Danish Depositor Guarantee Fund, which provides protection against losses in the event that a bank suspends payments or becomes subject to compulsory winding up.

Personal accounts

Payments under the UK Scheme are limited to 100% of the first £35.000 (at the prevailing Kroner equivalent) of a depositor’s total deposits with the bank.

If exchange rates fluctuate and £35,000 equals less than DKK 300.000, the Danish Guarantee Fund will increase the coverage under the UK scheme to DKK 300.000 per depositor.

The total protection you receive under both of the schemes is no less than you would receive if your deposit was protected only by the Danish Scheme and for balances above DKK 300.000 the protection may be higher depending upon the prevailing exchange rate.

Business accounts

Sole traders and businesses with a turnover under £1.000.000:

Payments under the UK Scheme are limited to 100% of the first £35.000 (at the prevailing Kroner equivalent) of a depositor’s total deposits with the bank.

If exchange rates fluctuate and £35,000 equals less than DKK 300.000, the Danish Guarantee Fund will increase the coverage under the UK scheme to DKK 300.000 per depositor.

Businesses with a turnover above £1.000.000

Deposits are covered solely under the Danish Guarantee Fund and payments under this scheme are limited to DKK 300.000 per depositor.

The cover relates to each depositor for their combined deposits held with Northern Rock and not for each account.

Further details of the scheme may be obtained from for the UK Scheme and for the Danish Scheme or by contacting Northern Rock.
